My
Dear Sir,
We have just finished the great International Match, and I suppose I must
add, that we have lost it. There is a dispute however about a shot if we
get it we win by one, if we don’t we lose by two. Forbes completely
broke down at 1,000. He made 6 misses running if he had made anything like
a score we should have won easily.
I have again the honour of having the 2nd score. Captain made the 1st.
I got two unfortunate misses at 1,000 else I should have topped a long
way. I also started with a miss at 800, and then made 57 with 14.

The
disputed shot was signalled by the man in the Butt a Centre
and by the marker in the Ricochet Butt a ricochet.
If you had just seen the row when the Match was finished. First there was
a great cheer got up that the Scots had won. Then a cheer for the English,
then a row about the Ricochet.
It is not settled yet, but I suppose there is no doubt but that we will
be blotted out.
Yours in haste
G Wilken |
